Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My beloved Gran was affected by Alzheimer's before she died and it was the most heartbreaking thing to witness. The confusion, frustration and memory loss she suffered was unbearable!
It is currently incurable but this by no means makes donations obselete - you will be helping to support the families and carers of those affected by Alzheimer's as well as assisting research into ways of helping sufferers cope more effectively.
There is evidence to suggest that there is a genetic risk factor, which means it could well affect other family members or indeed myself in the years to come - in fact, I think I should let you know that just after I had heard about this walk on the radio I immeadiatly forgot what it was I was wanting to sign up for! Having eventually recalled what it was that I was going to do I signed up quickly.
*£5 can get sufferers half an hour of support and advice in the informal setting of a dementia cafe.
*£21 provides one hour's dedicated time with a one to one support worker.
*£67 will get a fortnightly befriending visit for a person with dementia
I see it has an investment in my future, heaven forbid, and should I be fortunate enough to go through life never having to deal with any form of dementia again I will still feel satisfied to have helped others who may not have been so lucky.
