Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I gave a whole college assembly just before Christmas to raise awareness of the challenges local homeless people experience on a daily basis. My students were attentive and some were shocked, and even upset, to hear some of the stories told by homeless and how young some of them are.
When the opportunity to be involved in the 'CEO Sleepout Portsmouth' came up I thought it would be a demonstration, however small, of support.
Many young people often end up homeless through no fault of their own or through a set of the most challenging set of circumstances. It would break my heart if any of my students, past or present, found themselves in such a situation. I believe it is the duty of educationalists to highlight to young people the importance of dealing with difficulties as they arise and the importance of using people who are skilled, keen and able to help.
I once spent a night on the streets of Dublin as a young and naive teenager after being thrown out of the home. It was one of the most unnerving experiences of my life at that point.
