Virgin London Marathon 2010 · 25 April 2010 ·

We support Addenbrooke's and the Rosie to change patients' lives.

Story

As some of you are aware I am running the London marathon on the 25th April. True to form I have gone from zero exercise over the past couple of years (unless you count shopping and let’s face it I did a lot of that) to serious marathon training….for exactly 11 weeks so far.

I would like to take this opportunity to raise money for ANTS (the Acute Neonatal Transfer Service), a service that transfers very sick babies to hospitals that can provide specialised care.  One of my gorgeous goddaughters, Niamh (pictured), a very brave girl born at just 24.5 weeks and weighing 600 grams was the recipient of their wonderful care and attention in 2008. She is now 21 months old and doing really well. So for Niamh I’d like to raise money to say thank you.

In case you are worried I won’t make it, I should say that training has gone well and I’ve toughed out hail, rain and snow and managed to run 21 miles last week (that’s in one go, not altogether!). For the marathon runners among you I’m not trying to do it in any particular time, I’m just hoping to get around and enjoy the atmosphere somewhat.

I know this is not a great time to be raising money but anything you can donate would be much appreciated (in case you are worried your details are safe with JustGiving, they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails). A big thank you in advance! Cx

About the charity

We want to ensure that every patient at Addenbrooke's and the Rosie hospitals experiences the highest quality of care available. We raise funds for cutting edge technology, additional specialist staff and extra comforts for patients, over and above what is possible with NHS funding alone.
