My son Matthew was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was aged 12. This was a huge event for our family and life changing for Matthew. The support we received from the local hospital was excellent and the ongoing support from the Jersey Diabetes centre superb.  I know from experience how important it is for those with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and their families to receive help and support at diagnosis, which is a difficult and emotional time, and ongoing throughout their lives.

Diabetes Jersey works tirelessly to support the work of the Jersey Diabetes Centre and those with the condition and to raise awareness among the public of the need for testing. 

Without support the work of Diabetes Jersey could not continue.

I decided to take part in the Cycle Across the Andes event to raise funds for Diabetes Jersey in recognition for the support Matthew received and to help others with the same condition.

The cycle ride starts in Bariloche Argentina and finishes in Puerto Varas Chile and lasts for 7 days. The daily cycle through the mountains will be between 60 and 80 kilometres and the total distance is 450 kilometres. 

All funds raised go to Diabetes Jersey and no-one working for the charity receives  salary.
