As part of our recent sabbatical, Viv and I visited a number of brilliant local projects run by Action for Children in Port Talbot, Briton Ferry and Swansea. They include, for example, a residential service offering respite care to children and young people with complex health issues and learning difficulties; a pre-school project for children with physical disabilities or special needs; and a support service for young parents and families.

Action for Children is a charity that has its roots in the Methodist Church and we have supported it for many years. However, this is the first time that we have been able to see its work at first hand; talk to service users; and fully understand the impact that Action for Children projects have on people's lives.

On our trek along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in the Peruvian Andes next year we hope to raise money for these deserving projects that make a real difference in our local communities.
