UPDATE 12.10.11
A huge thank-you to everyone below who sponsored me - I really appreciated your support and together we've raised a fair bit of money for the Alzheimer's Society. It's a shame the '666' target remains some way off, but this was always (a devilishly) optimistic target given the short period of time I made available for fund-raising.
But yes, I just about made it to the finish on Sunday! Crossed the line in 3hrs 58mins - so was chuffed to dip just under the 4 hour mark. To be honest it was every bit as hard-going as I feared - my legs started to give up on me after only 17 miles or so and the final sections of the race around Sefton Park were a real test of will power I can tell you! Toenails are still black and bruised and legs sore but blisters not so bad after a seeing to at the doctors on Monday! - rest assured you've got your money's worth!
I would wholeheartedly recommend the Liverpool run to anyone also thinking of doing a marathon - the route really does have a bit of everything; wooded parks, two historic cities, a coastal sea section, estuary promenade, underground tunnel, bustling Liverpool centre, and UNESCO World Heritage site at Pier Head. The support from the sidelines was absolutely fantastic and the atmosphere of the whole day is one I'll never forget. A personal highlight was emerging from the solitude of the Queensway tunnel, a faint indistinct rumble ever so gradually focusing to a rhythmic roar as you are greeted by a 30 piece percussive carnival band and scores of enthusiastic cheers from the surrounding embankments! Also, the cup of tea at the end when exhausted and v cold!
Thanks again. Chris

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
OK so I'm running a Marathon - the inaugural Liverpool Marathon on October 9th. I'm not a regular runner by any means and this will be my first full marathon. Training hasn't been going amazingly well. In fact, with 3 weeks to go I've only just reached half-way distance on my training runs. So basically this is going to hurt. A lot.
I know it's a cliche but it really would help spur me on if I knew it was all for some practical benefit. So I have chosen to run for an Alzheimer's charity. I hope you agree this is a worthwhile cause.
If you have reached here from my facebook page you will probably have read that I recently learned I have been designated race number '666'. Appropriate or not I'll let you decide, but I found this quite amusing! It also seemed to lend itself as a (I hope not too) optimistic target to aim for on the fundraising. So with your help I hope we can achieve this.
Many thanks, will let you know how it goes and of course post some devlish photos of me pre and post race!
