Challenge Completed!

We achieved our aim of walking the last 100 miles of the Way of St James, the ancient pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain - tough but enjoyable walking, great company and much laughter en route. Through your wonderful generosity, I’ve far exceeded my target of £1500. It's not too late to sponsor me - let's see if we can make it £3200! Buen Camino!

The Cause

 The Fountain Centre is a drop-in centre within St Luke’s Cancer Centre at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. Its goal is to empower those touched by cancer, patients and carers alike, to regain control over their lives. The care offered involves complementary therapies in conjunction with conventional medicine. A variety of therapies are offered in the calm, friendly atmosphere of the centre, and a team of trained counsellors is on hand to work with patients and carers. The work of the Fountain Centre has the full backing of the hospital’s oncology team. Perhaps just as important as the therapies and support, the Fountain Centre offers a place simply to sit quietly in a comfortable, relaxed environment. Patients can pop in with their family and friends, have a cup of tea or coffee and escape the hustle and bustle of the hospital.

The Reason

Being diagnosed with breast cancer last October started me on a journey of surgery, scans, medication and radiotherapy. The ‘Healthy Steps’ class at the Fountain Centre helped enormously in improving my fitness and gave me a sense of well-being during my course of radiotherapy treatment. It was expertly led, great fun, and the therapist and fellow patients provided fantastic support. So it’s now time for me to undertake another journey… The Fountain Centre is such a blessing to patients and carers alike, and participating in this trek is my way of supporting their valued work and saying ‘thank you’ for the help and encouragement I’ve received.
