Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. When I signed up to become a member of Team Velindre in the Cardiff Bay 10K on Sunday 29th March, I planned to raise some money through a series of races for the ‘Hospital of Hope’ the cancer centre that provides care, support and treatment to cancer patients and their families.
My plans were dashed when I had a freak accident on the home stretch of a regular run and sustained extensive injuries, including broken ribs. Well, I thought, as I sat in the back of an ambulance on the way to A&E, at least it’s only an accident. I can recover from this - it’s not cancer. But, actually, more people than ever are living with cancer and survival rates for many cancers are improving through earlier detection and better treatments which is why the work of cancer centres like Velindre is so important.
Two months on from my accident, I feel very lucky to be running again. It’s almost like being given a second chance. I hope, now, to put my running miles to good use. With your help, we can raise some much-needed money for Velindre Cancer Centre so that cancer patients and their families also have the opportunity for a precious second chance.
