Story
‘It’s A Mistry’ Fundraising event in memory of
Priya and Jayden Mistry
who both died 13th December 2010.
Climbing Ben Nevis has never been on our ‘To Do’ list, and for those who know us well, you’ll now why! As our grandfather used to say “circumstances alter situations” and the following circumstances altered ours.
We first met Priya when she joined the ‘Beyond The Box family’ to work on the contract we had secured with Hoover. A gentle, caring and wonderful young woman who always left a piece of her smile behind her.
Priya was married to Rish for over 7 years and their dreams of having a family were beginning to turn into a reality.
She was 8 months pregnant on 13 December 2010 when she suffered a brain haemorrhage. Because of this their little baby boy Jayden was brought into the world to soon and he wasn’t strong enough to make it. Not wanting to leave on his own, he took Priya his mummy with him.
As a focus for Rish, his family, his friends and work colleagues a decision was made to raise funds in memory of Priya and Jayden. The monies raised will be used to purchase a ‘Sipap Flow Driver’ for Lister Hospital Stevenage where Priya and Jayden both lost their individual battles for life.
SiPAP Flow Drivers
These ventilators allow the medical team to manage the babies breathing without intrusive procedures such as intubation. It can mean a preterm baby may not need intubation at all. They are also helpful in weaning off the ventilator, as the baby can be extubated and nursed on the Sipap. A Sipap flow driver costs £6500 and the hospital is in desperate need of eleven. Our current target is to raise the funds for one unit. If the fund raises more than the target of £6500 the additional monies will be used to fund more ventilators or other urgent equipment at the hospital.
Climbing Ben Nevis on 25 June 2011 is just one of the plans in place to raise funds throughout the year. Others include a prize draw, treasure hunts around UK cities, coffee mornings and a host of other activities, many still to be thought of to ensure we meet our target of £6500, and if we can.... beyond it.
The two of us have decided that jointly we want to raise £1000 towards the £6500 through pledges. Please help us to do this by supporting us in our current efforts to get fit and build our stamina to complete the Ben Nevis climb on 25 June . Circumstances really do alter situations.....
With our most heartfelt thanks,
Christine and Joanne
