Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.

I have chosen to fundraise for the Children’s Centre again this year, last year I had the opportunity to raise money for the charity by participating in the ‘3 Peaks Challenge’  which saw me climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales – Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowdon all within 24 hours!

The 3 Peaks was a great experience and one which I will never forget, when I was given the opportunity to go to Morrocco to climb Mount Toubkal, I put my name down straight away.

Mount Toubkal, known locally as Jebel Toubkal, is North Africa’s highest mountain at 4,167meters above sea level and commands superb views of the High Atlas Mountains. Although the climb is not technically difficult I am expecting that the altitude and heat will make it a much tougher climb than my previous challenge!

Our itinery for the climb is as follows…

Day 1- Marrakech - Imlil.

After arrival in Marrakech, the group and I will be transferred to the little village of Imlil. Here we will be able to explore the area and spend the night in a guesthouse.

Day 2 - Imlil - Toubkal Refuge.

Today the group and I begin our trek. Heading along the Ait Mizane Valley, we first pass the village of Aremd and then onto the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch. We then continue by crossing the flood plains our route takes us along mule tracks and up into the high rocky cliffs above the valley. Crossing the river we eventually come to the pastoral shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, which attracts tourists and pilgrims. From here the trail continues to climb steadily, snaking and zigzagging its way up to the snowline and the Toukbal Refuge (3206m), our stop for the night.

Day 3 -

Toubkal Refuge - Summit - Refuge . Early in the morning we make our attempt on the summit of Jebel Toukbal. Our route takes us up the South Col route which is far more interesting than the North col route. It also benefits from having fewer people on it. The views along the way make the journey more than worthwhile.

Day 4 -

We head down the mountain and back towards Imlil were we will Transfer to Marrakech for a celebratory Meal.

Day 5 -

Transfer to the Airport and return home
