In February 2018, over a few glasses of gin and tonic, Chrissy and Gabi were reminiscing about the time when, after one too many of said gin and tonics, they decided, in their infinite wisdom, to sign up for the City of Salford 10km run.
“Yeah,” Chrissy said, “that was a ridiculous idea. I’ve always HATED running...”
“I’ve always quite fancied the Great North Run though...”
A few more gins later (and they say it’s only mother’s ruin, we can tell you now that you don’t have to be a mother ;) and Chrissy and Gabi found that they had convinced each other that the Great North Run was a brilliant idea - so much so, that they entered the ballot immediately!
The rest, as they say, is history. Of course, both Chrissy and Gabi got places through the ballot and decided to run for the Stroke Association. If we are going to drag ourselves through this, it should most definitely be for a good cause!
The Stroke Association is close to both of our hearts. Chrissy lost her dad to a stroke back in 2001, and Gabi has friends and family who have suffered or died from strokes, including children, and looks after children who have had strokes. So, despite some degree of trepidation (which occasionally borders on abject terror), we want something good to come out of our reluctant running. This is a massive deal for us - Chrissy hardly runs at all, and Gabi runs regularly but certainly not half-marathons! We’ve been training hard despite the hot weather and are determined to do ourselves and the Stroke Association proud. Any sponsorship, however much or little you can spare, would be massively gratefully received.
