Story

Hello everyone,

After a double knee replacement in 2007, in 2011, I trekked to the base camp (17,000ft) of Mt Everest with my friend Jo, from Lukla, stopping at tea houses and villages on the way up. It was a 17 day trek and I just managed to get back for my 73rd birthday in December!

In 2012 I returned to Nepal alone but this time met up with a friend from South Africa in Kathmandu. With the invaluable help of our same wonderful guide Rajendra Thapa, of Nepal GatewayTrekking Pvt. ltd and his trusty porters, for this trip we trekked to Gokya lakes, en route to Cho Oyu base camp. On this occasion, I was also raising money for Papworth Trust' OWL Centre.

It was an amazing experience and I enjoyed every minute of it. Since coming home, I always felt that I needed to return to Nepal. So this year, I will be trekking again to the base camp of Mt. Everest but this time, after some encouragement, my son Paul will accompany me en route. I could not be more delighted and proud!

We fly out on 16th November 2014 and hopefully we will be back on 8th December, home in time to celebrate my 76th birthday. This will be second time for me but first time for Paul.

We wish to raise money for a charity that is dear to my heart, Papworth Trust' OWL Centre which is based in Pampisford.

The Papworth Trust' OWL Centre is a hub for adults with learning difficulties where they can have the opportunity to train for work, take part in voluntary work, progress to further education and have access to a wide range of activities such as art, computer skills, cooking, DIY, gardening, gym and everyday life skills.

The OWL site is also home to the OWL Garden Enterprise, a social cafe and a bike recycling project saving unwanted bikes from going to landfill. OWL is a very warm, lively and welcoming place and is greatly appreciated by all its customers, staff and visitors.

Your donations will be much appreciated, no matter how small, as it all helps and will go towards this amazing charity.

Thanks for donating...will update you with our journey soon!
