Story
Hi, my name is Chris and Alex is my twin brother. In August of this year, 2016, he was diagnosed with Aplastic Anaemia. " Aplastic anaemia (AA) is a rare but serious acquired blood disorder, where the bone marrow fails to produce essential blood cells. " Obviously this came as a big shock to him, our family and friends but thanks to the amazing work at Stoke Mandeville he was able to start blood transfusions to normalise his blood and platelet counts. However the transfusions are only a temporary measure and on 23rd November Alex will be admitted into King's College to start full treatment.
He will undergo a chemotherapy procedure before receiving a bone marrow transplant from myself, as a result of this chemo he will unfortunately lose his hair. To show our support for him during this difficult time myself and some of mine and Alex's closest friends will shave our heads for charity. The charity is called The Aplastic Anaemia Trust and is currently the only charity solely dedicated to research and support for those suffering from the condition. Hopefully when all his treatment is over, he should be discharged from hospital in time for Christmas and life can return to some form of normality and look forward to starting university in a years time.
The head shaved is planned for the 30th of November, photos will be posted on here!
Any donations are greatly appreciated!
