Story
I have decided to undertake a 40km sponsored walk across the South Downs as part of a team to support research into Rett Syndrome. The walk takes place on 9 May. Liam, a close friend of mine has a daughter with Rett Syndrome, and it is a truly heart heartbreaking disease. I have done some fund raising over the last year or so with the parents of children with Rett Syndrome and their drive and determination to support their girls is truly amazing. Rett Sydrome affects girls only, and these poor little girls are oftern unable to walk and talk, as well as having a wide range of other issues. It is a lot like being locked in. The girls develop normally for the first year or so of their life and then slowly decline. Not a situation that any parent should have to face. Reverse Rett was started by the inspirational Rachel Bloom. After learning that her daughter had Rett Syndrome Rachel decided that she had to do something. From her kitchen table, armed with her laptop she established Reverse Rett. From these humble beginnings in 2010, the charity has gone on to raise over £2.5m to fund crucial research. There is a potential cure out there as this condition has been reversed on mice in labs. This research could also path the way for other degenerative brains conditions. The team I am walking with want to raise as much money as possible to make this happen! Primarily because almost all members of the team have a daughter impacted by this condition. If you can support me with a donation then I am truly grateful. However, regardless of this, could you please take 5 mins to read about Rett Syndrome on the internet. As well as raising money, we also need to raise awareness.
Many thanks, Chris.
