Story
Just a quick update to say I completed the St Helens 10K run in a time of 51 mins 05 secs. Many thanks to all those who donated to my chosen charity Cancer Research UK.
First of all I would like to say thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Now that your here I suppose you would like to know what on earth I'm doing a 10k run for???
Well those of you that have seen me recently will have noticed that salad hasn't been on the menu much recently and the old middle age spread had taken a firm hold. With that in mind I decided I needed a some motivation and a challenge and what could be better than training to do a 10k run around my home town.
The 10k race/plod provides said challenge but what about the motivation???
A few months ago, 16th June to be exact, my mother in law Marie Briers unexpectedly passed away. After being rushed into Whiston Hospital on 2nd June 2013 test revealed Marie had advanced lung cancer and we were told that there was nothing that could be done to stop its progress and that it had also spread to her liver. All that brave Marie wanted was to go home and spend the rest of her days with her family and loved ones and so it was arranged that she would go home on the 11th June. Although Marie tried to fight, the cancer had a firm grip on her weak body and she sadly passed away on the 16th June with her family around her. The speed of Marie's untimely death devestated the entire family, me included, and it is this that provides my motivation to run.
