Story
My Dad Bill a lovely man who for the past 10+ years has had Alzeheimers, maybe even longer we don't really know.
Bill was the landlord of the The Crown Pub and Prince of Wales in East Hanney and Challow. He was also the first club/bar manager at Darlington RFC Blackwell Meadow ground.
So how can you explain to people how one moment your father remembers you and then on the next visit needs to be reminded who you are, then the next visit needs to be reminded and so on and so on.
My Mum and Sister have seen the decline over the years on a daily basis which is so difficult for them.
Pick up the phone and call
home, your father answers but has no clue who you are.
Visit your father in his
home and again he finds it difficult to remember who you are.
This is one side of Alzeheimer's, there are many more, but these are the ones which hurt for me. A good person like Bill Leafe should not end his later years not remembering his family.
The one area of his life he always remembers is his beloved RAF days, and that is so lovely, even if you have heard the story for the hundredth time :).
We need to help the Alzeheimer's Society to raise more money so we can research even more about this disease. I have promised to raise a minimum £250.00 which I would love to DOUBLE.
Bill is now based at http://www.orchardcarehomes.com/our-homes/detail/st-georges-hall-lodge
With currently over 850,000 people in the UK living with dementia and this number set to rise to over two million by 2051, Alzheimer’s Society is leading the fight against dementia; supporting people to live well today and searching for a cure for tomorrow.
