Story

What started out as a means of escaping the posers at the gym and a means of keeping fit has escalated into me running the upcoming London Marathon,  I also aim to run the New York marathon too....I would be extremely grateful if you could donate as much as possible to this worthwhile cause.

16-4-11: Woke up at silly o'clock to catch the train to Euston in order to register at the Excel Centre. Anticipated huge crowds at Excel but managed to beat the post lunchtime rush and get registered anc collected my running number and chip within 5 mins. Result! Spent the next 90mins walking around the excellent exhibition that Virgin had set up in the hall collecting all sorts of useful freebies! Kids loved it as they got to get a speed ticket from some charity testing your sprinting speed..yeah like Im gonna be doing that!!! Retired at 2130 to get a good nights sleep at the nearby hotel.

17.4.11 Had brekkie ,,carb loaded with choccy muffins!!! Then spent the next 30 mins ensuring my I wouldnt need a toilet break on the run..got changed kissed the wife & rugrats goodbye and made my way to Greenwich for the start.

Felt strangely emotional on my way in still not sure why though! The weather was overcast but dry so perfect running conditions. Then to reward all them sub zero training runs in wind ,rain , snow & ice god decided we all needed some sunshine and let loose bumping the temperature to 20 deg C!!!

Race began on time although it was 5 mins before I crossed the Start line, fantastic support all the way around with loads of pubs putting on bands and bbq's. Even the Millwall & Bermondsey Pitbull owners donned their tracksuits & Rockport shoes and came out and cheered us all on!

Reached Tower Bridge 13m point , really looking forward to seeing my fantastic wife & friends just over the bridge. Legs were feeling strong even if I looked a bit rough. Crossed the river catching sight of my little fan club cheering like nutters on the other side of the road..Amazed to see some runners were already at the 22m stage!

Seeing the family & friends really spurred me on, to which I suddenly got it into my head that I was Seb Coe and unleashed the Coe kick on my unsuspecting fellow runners , this resulted in me moving up the race order to 37,000 position! Get In! Im currently wating for my call from the GBR Olympic team to confirm my selection!

At the 20m point my legs decided that it would be nicer for me to walk along with 90% of the other runners. As we all passed through an underpass the silhouettes of everyone ahead walking very stiff legged reminded of some 80's Zombie flick!

21m - got very bored with running so bizarrely I decided that I would attempt to restyle my barnet mid marathon. This was achieved by soaking my head with water and using my fingers swept my dripping locks off the forehead and to the side. In my head I now looked like Russell Brand confirmed by loads of women cheering me on (in fact there were probably more men doing so!) obviously attracted by new hair style..later photos would confirm I looked more like the love child from Adolf Hitler.

22m - greeted by friends and managed to have a swig of someone offering me a pint...not a good idea as Im not the erm strongest of drinkers and even this swig made me feel woozy!

24m Coming out of another Zombie underpass saw the wife and kids , wife had managed to drop the camera onto the bonce of a fellow runner...luckily no damage to the camera!

25m Rounded the corner near Big Ben to glimpse a man dressed as a pair of balls complete with pubes about 300m in front of me...game on!

26m now level pegging with Mr Testicles , rounded the last corner to the finish before the bloody show off took off like a Usain frickin Bolt...he then slowed down but sadly I was too far behind to catch him having already unleashed the Coe kick earlier in the race! Finally collected my goody bag and medal and met the wife and kids on Horseguards parade before travelling back to the hotel to freshen up.

Thoruoghly enjoyed the whole event , my first marathon and as soon as my foot heals up Im planning to run others ....would recommend others to take part. If you want to take part in a race , run the 100m , if you want to experience a race , take part in the London Marathon.
