Story
Hello,
I have decided to take part in the London Electric Run this year in memory of my 23 year old brother Harvey, who we lost to the terrible illness of addiction nearly 3 years ago. Harvey thankfully, never got to the point where he ended up homeless, but it is the result of addiction for many.
Providence Row are a local homeless charity, based in the east end of London, that are getting to the root causes of homelessness. They are working with people to build skills through training schemes and employment support and also provide support for people with mental health challenges and addictions.
"East London remains one of the most deprived areas in the country. Situated next to the City of London – home to some of the wealthiest corporations in the UK – East London continues to have high incidences of poverty and homelessness.
Last year 6,437 people slept rough on London’s streets, a 13% increase from the previous year."
Although Providence Row are a long standing charity, they are always looking at new ways to help people and make a difference, which requires even more funding. A new project of theirs called 'Providence Grow' particularly caught my eye and I would love to be able to donate to help develop their Urban Garden and horticultural trainee scheme. I am passionate about gardening myself and know how healing it can be for the mind, body and soul and this project will be so beneficial to any individual that needs some mental clarity and relaxation.
Hope you can help and thank you! x
P.S. I have never done any kind of 'run' before apart from a little bit on the treadmill, so although it's only 5k, it will be challenging, plus I only have 5 weeks to train! Eeeeek.
