Fundraising for Diabetes UK
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you who are close to me know, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on the 13th March 2010. Type 1 Diabetes is also named juvenile diabetes, or early-onset diabetes as it appears usually during in childhood. Type 1 Diabetes is where the pancreas doesn't produce any insulin, which regulates blood sugar levels. If the levels are too high for a long period of time it can seriously damage the body internally. It doesn't run in my family, and we had literally no clue how to manage it or what the hell to do! During diagnosis, I was in hospital for 2 days, and over the past 6 years or so I have been out of hospital many different times due to unstable blood sugar levels.
I have decided to do Swim22 due to it raising money for Diabetes UK which is a charity very close to my heart. It is a progressive event which I will be doing between February 22 and May 22. However my goal is to complete it within 12 weeks meaning I will be swimming around 120 lengths a week!
Currently, Diabetes UK is campaigning for better treatments and cure, funding pioneering, life-changing research into care, treatment and prevention and more.. It aims to ensure people get the earliest possible diagnosis, halve the rate of complications that can occur due to poor control or late diagnosis, and reduce premature deaths which can occur from diabetes. Swim22 is also a personal goal for me as my aim for 2016 is to become fitter, and be more active, and I feel this is a positive thing to do for myself and people who suffer from both Type 1 & 2 Diabetes!
However, Diabetes UK can't continue and do more of this critical research and support without support from the UK, donations from people like me you, and general fundraising. This is why today I am asking if you could spare any spare money you may have to sponsor me and help me reach my goal of £300! Any donations will be gratefully received.
Many Thanks!
