The Chertsey Panto is an annual community event, written, directed and performed by a bunch of people who just happen to live in or around Chertsey and have, usually by dint of being in the wrong pub at the wrong time, been persuaded, cajoled or tricked into taking part. It is a community event to its core and everyone is welcome, on stage, behind stage or in the audience.
It started by accident ten years ago and this is the ninth performance, in a long line of extremely High Art productions.
We do it for Woking and Sam Beare hospice because many of us have a personal connection with their fabulous work. We are so grateful for what they do, and hope that this small contribution will help more people to have their support when such hugely difficult times hit.
There is always a bar. This is important and nervous types are encouraged to use it.
We are eternally grateful to all the ribald and bawdy Chertsey rabble who turn up every year, and subject themselves to the manhandling of the Ugly Sisters, the trickery of the house magician and the general brutal menacing for their money.
Thank you to Richard for the script, Denise for the directing, May and Jane for the costumes and props, and all the cast, musicians and volunteers who give up so much time and energy to make this show the explosion of weird oddity that it always is.
But most of all, thank you, so much, to the whole team at Woking and Sam Beare hospice. You know why.
