Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Trying to find the words to describe the ongoing tragedy in the Mediterranean has made me look again at the word 'welcome'. The images of the over-packed boats, drownings and the refugees being turned away reminded me of the many Irish people who fled the Famine and perished in 'coffin ships'. From the 70s onwards, Irish people also escaped the Troubles and found welcome all over the world. I want to support the amazing medical assistance given by Doctors Without Borders to refugees in the Mediterranean and think about the borders we put up against ideas and people in our own heads. I often imagine the poets among the refugees. And helping to save their stories for everyone to share.
