Story
Dear All
Thank you so much for all the support and sponsorship for the Futures for Kids Walk to Work on Friday. I am finally recovering from what was a very wet and very long 37 miles. It took us just under 12 hours in total including a couple of food breaks and despite it not being a race, I was pleased to be one of three to get to the end first before the rest of the 37 mile walkers - we just wanted to finish as quickly as possible! I know the charity and trustees well, I know the money raised will go directly to help children, with no money being kept back to cover high charity admin costs that exist in so many other charities.
The last 15 miles was incredibly hard - a 9 mile tow path seemed to go on forever, we dreamt of swimming, stealing a boat or bicycles, and at one point 2 horses looked a good alternative option to save walking one more step. We got lost in a large park 4 miles from the end, and the rain which arrived within an hour of starting the walk continued off and mostly on all day. I apologise to anyone who saw me as we dragged ourselves down Bishopsgate for the last mile during the Friday commuter rush hour - yes, I was the person who resembled a tired, drowned rat.
Having done the marathon 3 years ago, I can assure anyone that a walk this long is not an easier option. I shall look forward to supporting from the comfort of the bar at the finish line next year.
Thank you to everyone who sponsored me. I promise no requests for sponsorship for some time but please do continue to support this great charity meanwhile.
Best, Charlotte
Futures For Kids was launched in February 2008 by a group of people in the futures industry in Europe, with the aim of raising funds to support children’s charities around the world.
The charity has raised in excess of £1 million since inception and continues to go from strength to strength. I'm delighted to being part of the walk this year and supporting them in this small way.
FFK is supporting four fantastic charities this year:
