Story
I sit here and struggle to write a reason why I want to do this because I really don't know how to put something I'm so passionate about into words...
You're probably thinking why I'm banging on about it and why 'this' has changed my life so much but it really has. I unfortunately lost a family member when I was quite young to suicide. Despite not being close to her it affected me in ways that will show for the rest of my life. With the help of many friends, family and a counsellor I got over it and on reflection I realised, one person can have such a huge impact on your life and you'd never believe it. I was lucky because I had a couple of people that really stood by me, dragging me along every day but one friend really sticks out for me whilst I went through school...she wasn't someone people would exactly say was my friend and people rarely saw us together but no one will ever understand what she did for me because she didn't necessarily do anything, she was just there.
I sadly lost this friend to suicide too- little did I know she was so 'there' for me because she was fighting the same battle. I guess, she pulled me through it but just didn't have enough fight to pull herself through it. She's inspired me in more ways than I could begin to explain, now a trainee counsellor I hope to make an impact on someone's life, the way she did with me and I support any cause that builds an army against the evils of mental illness to prevent suicides in young people.
So here goes! I will be doing a 10 mile walk in memory of my very own angel- Vicky Harrison and if you could find it in your hearts to sponsor me I'd be very grateful!
