Story
I will be turning 50 next March. At the beginning of 2020 I wanted to set myself a big challenge to be completed during my 50th year.
I started training in January but due to COVID the event was rescheduled for September, so in recent weeks I have been spending the early mornings and weekends training.
I am under no illusions - this challenge is HUGE for me and I am finding the swimming in particular very hard - I am no open water swimmer and am not enjoying this element of the triathlon at all.
Headway Oxfordshire is a charity that supports people affected by acquired brain injury, which has been as a result of a brain injury such as a stroke, tumour, hemorrhage or disease, as well as traumatic brain injury resulting from a road traffic accident, fall or sporting injury. Our mission is to improve life after brain injury and to raise awareness of brain injury.
I see on a daily basis the amazing work that the front line staff do to support and encourage the rehabilitation of clients that attend the Activity and Rehabilitation Centre (ARC).
We are currently fundraising to have the ARC redeveloped - specifically to extend the exercise area so that we can increase our facilities and support more people to access the equipment they require to enable their rehabilitation.
Any money that I raise by completing this Triathlon will go towards this specific project.
