Story
Group B Streptococcus is the UK's most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies and of meningitis in babies under age 3 months. On average in the UK, at least-two babies a day develop a group B Strep infection -one baby a week dies from their GBS infection, and-one baby a week survives with long-term disabilities – physical, mental or both.Yet most group B Strep infections are preventable. Group B Strep Support informs families & health professionals about group B Strep to save tiny lives.
It’s a huge honour to be running for Group B Strep. Our first daughter Mary was born with it, so it’s one very close to my heart. Through the amazing help of the staff at Chelsea Westminster Hospital, we were fortunate enough to take Mary home after a rather stressful and tough ten days in ICU. It could have all been possibly prevented had I had a Group B Strep test at 35-37 weeks. Sadly at the moment this is not offered as a routine test in the UK.
I would love you to support me in anyway you can in this rather hectic challenge! I’m not and have never been a massive runner so it’s going to take quite a bit of PMA and stamina! Feel free to come and cheer me on please!!
Thanks so much
Lots of love Charlie x
