My dad has CML, Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia and has fought the illness since before I was born. I have only ever known my dad being ill, but through the treatment he has recieved over the past 19 years, from his bone marrow transplant when I was 1 years old, to the preventative treatment ever since, he has lived a relatively normal life and I have been shielded from the bad parts. I am now 17 years old and have realised the full impact of his situation.

More recently he was admitted to the Freeman Hospital for treatment as his condition has mutated and has moved on to the accelerated phase. This means more tests, chemotherapy and a long stay in hospital to try and stabilise his condition. Not to mention complications with his health and chest as he only has 50% lung funtion due to a four month stay in hospital in 2011 due to contracting Swine Flu and being in ICU for 4 weeks in an induced coma on a ventilator. He thankfully fought this however has been left with ill health, due to this, his chance of a second Bone Marrow Transplant is falling by the wayside.

The work the hospital does is vital to not just the outcome of my dad, but to all of the patients currently undergoing life saving treatment at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care, at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle Upon Tyne.

I am shaving my hair in support of the Northern Centre for Cancer Care and the CHARLIE BEAR CHARITY to show my support and to hopefully help raise money towards life saving treatment which my dad's doctors are currently "Negotiating" on. Hair Haus - Bishop Auckland have kindly volunteered to shave my hair! THANK YOU !! So that I dont look like a total dork at sixth form ! But its all for a good cause. I am aiming for 29th June 2013 ! So not long to raise some very well deserved cash for this cause.
