This year I'll be running my fourth Brighton Half Marathon and fourth London Marathon.

Before losing my sight, I was an active person, enjoying activities such as running, weight training and boxing. Losing my sight knocked my confidence and had a huge effect on my independence - even a walk to the shops became a huge challenge.

In November 2012, I learnt there was life beyond sight loss when I started to receive support from Blind Veterans UK. The offered me training and rehabilitation that meant I no longer had to rely on others for help with the simplest of tasks. It also opened new avenues for me with support in areas such as IT and Sports & Recreation. They helped me to accept my new situation and showed me that sight loss didn't need to be a barrier.

As part of my Sports & Recreation rehabilitation I was encouraged to set myself goals. Since I began to receive support, I’ve completed the Three Peaks challenge, three Great South Runs, three Brighton Half Marathons, three London Marathons and two 100k ultra-challenge walks from London to Brighton.

This year I will be running my fourth Brighton Half Marathon and fourth London Marathon for Blind Veterans UK. My training schedule kicks off with the Brighton Half Marathon in February 2017. Together with my sighted guide, Richard, I hope to smash last years’ time.
