Story
Charles Woods - 24th April 1946 - 13th March 2009
Charlie was known to many people in the and in . In the he was a successful entrepreneur who had tried his hand at just about everything from driving a taxi to owning a string of Guest Houses. He was a charming man with sharp edges and a sublime wit but he was also a kind and compassionate man who helped many as a counsellor.
In many knew Charlie by his Internet Forum names as he was a prolific poster initially on Egypt Search and then on Luxor4u. He was asked to be a moderator on Luxor4u following his magnificent performance as an argumentative but brilliant historian on Egypt Search. To his followers he was known as The Saint and then as Mrs. Doubtfire. In addition to his historical essays he was a creative writer, entertaining many by describing the adventures of Victorian ladies as they travelled through encountering fearsome beasts, ghosts and legendary heroes.
What few knew about Charlie was that he was an exceptionally generous man who gave, time, energy and money to the charities he supported. Close to his heart was a group called Little Stars that operates mainly on the west bank. Charlie was there at the opening of the new clinic and donated a large sum to make sure that it was properly equipped.
Charlie has great plans for Little Stars that were hampered by his ill-health and halted by his untimely death. His death was not unexpected but it was lamented. Charlie will be missed by all his friends, colleagues and enemies. He was a fearsome foe and an exceptional friend.
Little Stars would like to create a memorial for Charlie so that his name is not forgotten. If you would like to honour your memory of Charlie by making a donation towards his Memorial Fund then please do so through Just Giving. The fund will be used to provide a better life for the poorest children on the west bank of the River Nile.
