Story
Thank you for supporting me, it is very much appreciated. I lost my mother and father within the last two years and when my mother became ill she was so well cared at home by the Macmillan nurses. My mum just wanted to be at home and they gave us the support we all needed and so I want to try and raise some money to give others the opportunity we had, when the time came to say goodbye.
I have always been a keen runner and so decided to run the Marathon Des Sables. It is a race that has always intrigued me and I thought it was challenge that people would support too.
About the race.
Who could you be if you pushed yourself to your limits? What could you do? Where might you go? The Marathon des Sables is the stuff of legends – a truly gruelling multi-stage adventure in one of the world’s most inhospitable environments, the Sahara Desert. It is indisputably the Toughest Footrace on Earth. Physically, it is six days’ running over 250 kms (156 miles) across endless sand dunes, rocky jebels and white-hot salt plains, carrying what you need to survive on your back. Mentally, it is the ultimate challenge – an experience like no other in the world.
This year 1100 runners started, 900 finished and I finished in 16th place. My mum was always my biggest supporter and so to do well meant a huge amount to me personally. I always think there is room for improvement, (something I always tell the children I teach) and so if I raise over £5000 pounds for Macmillan then I will sign up again and head off to the Sahara to try and finish in the top ten next year.
Thank you for supporting me and Macmillan, it is very much appreciated.
