Story
This coming Easter I will be taking part in a Raleigh International voluntary charity project as part of a group of 20 Civil Engineering students from Newcastle University. We will be designing and building a Gravity Fed Water System for a remote community in the Malaysian part of Borneo. During the three week project we will be living in the community learning about their needs whilst at the same time educating them on how their water system will work.
This area in Malaysia has the largest number of people living below the poverty line, many of whom are unable to access clean water or basic sanitation, which amongst other things has a serious impact on their health. Providing something as simple as clean water drastically reduces the spread of diseases such as cholera and dysentery.
I am hoping to raise the money I need as my part of the sponsorship in order to help cover the project costs and a donation to Raleigh to further their work. We will be holding several large group fundraising events at University and I will also be taking part in the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge in October with the aim of completing it in under 12 hours.
Every little helps, so please make a donation to this worthy cause.
I am extremely grateful to you.
