Story

We are a team of four women ranging from our 20s to our 50s, with many things in common, but one thing that unites us over everything else is our joy for swimming. We met each other for a practice sea swim, a chance encounter without really knowing what to expect, over enjoying a swim with like-minded people. As soon as we met, we instantly clicked as a group.

We all love to train hard and push our bodies to the limit, we enjoy being active.  We each have our own stories and challenges to face, and we wanted to come together as a group of women, to form a relay team and attempt to swim The English Channel, in June this year.

The swim is 21 miles (approx!) from Dover to France, we will swim in only a costume – no wetsuits or neoprene allowed - at best the water will feel cool! It’s one of the most challenging swims you can do, considering the distance, the water temperature, jellyfish, the conditions of the sea, the list goes on!

It goes without saying swimming The English Channel requires both physical and mental strength and dedication; the early alarms to swim, bracing the cold water of winter, the achy shoulders, but we’re doing what we love. Swimming! It is without doubt, for each of us our biggest challenge to date, and as individuals and as a group we have never felt more determined to give this challenge everything we have.

Swimming is a strong part of everyone’s life on the team and we are passionate about giving back to the beautiful earth that allows us to swim in its lakes, rivers, and seas. Our seas are under threat from pollution and over-fishing. Whilst we are covering 21 miles of sea, that’s a drop in the ocean for the vast seas and waters that fill our world, that need our care. And now.  For that reason, we are raising money for The Marine Conservation Society.

We’d be very grateful for any donation; it would mean a lot to us and The Marine Conservation Society.

Thank you

Carmen, Chloe, Michelle and Jane
