On the 19th June 2016, I shall be cycling from the cenotaph in London to the cenotaph in Redcar. As Big Ben chimes midnight, that will be in effect my starting pistol to cycle the distance of 283 miles within 24 hours, unassisted. I shall be carrying a poppy wreath on my back as I cycle, and intend to place it on the cenotaph in Redcar when I complete my ride.
My route takes me along Whitehall, through Trafalgar Square, The Strand and past Smithfield Market. Heading out of London through Waltham Cross, Royson, St Ives and past RAF Wyton. I shall pass through Peterborough, and Market Deeping before climbing up to the Cathedral in Lincoln. Heading out of Lincoln I pass the home of the Red Arrows and former home of the Dambusters, RAF Scampton. I will skirt past Scunthorpe, Goole and Howden before making it to York.
It will feel like I'm within touching distance from my finish as I head out of York in the direction of Topcliffe, Northallerton, Stokesley and onto Guisborough. If it is still light enough, by the time I reach this point I will get my first glimpse of the sea and Redcar.
I have estimated that it equates to about roughly 100,000 pedal revolutions, but prefer not to dwell on that.
