Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!!!!
As some of you may know, my Dad Nicholas Powell, passed away on the 19th of June 2003 from Meningitis. Meningitis is a disease that involves inflamation or swelling of the meninges. Meninges are the membranes that cover the brain and the spinal cord. This disease spreads fast and it can be unexpected.
When I was 9 my Dad suddenly caught Meningitis and there was nothing we could do to stop it. In June 2013, it will be ten years since he tragically died, leaving the Powell girls to fight on in his name.
Anyone who knew my dad would agree that he was a brilliant journalist and it was his patience, charisma, gentleness and great sense of humour that helped keep the Powell family in shape. One memory that I hold to heart are his gift for storytellings and his famous cookings such as potato cakes (not that I don't love Mum's cooking.) We each hold our own memories of him, for instance, to most it would be his talent for holding a drink or his fanatstic dancing at Weddings.
The Gazette stressed him to have 'dry wit, easy conversation, immense geneoristy...and an amusing writer..with Tall and angular in build, laconic and laid back in nature.'
So, by raising money I am cycling from London to Paris in June, it will be around 80 miles a day. However, not only am I cycling in memory of my Dad but I am hoping to raise money for the Meningitis Fund. This is because the Meningitis Trust offers support to those affected by the illness through many ways. They offer a range of services and support for people affect by meningitis. Such as home visits, counselling, financial support and therapies.
