Dave Sturrock, Richard Philips, Paul Leighton, Neil Davidson, Janet Morrison and Mags Pritchard are crewing the Hanse 470 Ceilidh of Lorne in this year’s Atlantic Rally for Cruisers. This is a 2,700Nm non stop race across the Atlantic with 250 yachts entered commencing on Sunday 25 November from Las Palmas on Gran Canaria. All the above have given up their time to sail the yacht and it is expected to take around 3 weeks to complete. The ARC is an annual event organised by the World Cruising Club, the yacht and crew must comply with stringent safety standards to participate.
Our chosen is the NSPCC and the name of the particular appeal is Changing Childhoods, its aim being to fund services such as helping families where a child has mental illness, running programmes for fathers who have used violence in the home to help them realise the impact of their actions, helping children who have been victims of abuse, raising awareness among new parents about the dangers of shaking babies etc. The NSPCC also now runs Childline and the numbers of young people contacting the charity because of a variety of problems is continuing to rise. Helping our children is therefore essential to enable our society to continue to develop.
