Story
I never thought I would be someone to set myself a goal as big as this. In fact this is the first sport related goal I have set myself and the idea of completing it seems far beyond my widest dreams.
So why am I doing it?
Rapha's founder and CEO, Simon Mottram's son has severe autism and he is just one of many, in fact 1 in 100 people in the UK with this developmental disability. Autism is a very difficult to describe as there are many different manifestations and severities. An autistic person handles their environment and communicates in a different way to 'normal people' and this can be both difficult for the person with autism and also for the many people that surround them. Support and education can change an autistic person's life for the better forever, giving them a chance to be independent and feel valuable through learning, thriving and achieving.
How will I achieve this epic mission?
Ambition is everything and the training put into achieving this goal is as important as the goal itself. I have to some extent put my life on hold dedicating my weekends predominantly to long rides, as well as training before or after work on week days. The ground between Manchester and London is not flat and so I have first to overcome my fear of the pain in climbing hills. As I sit and write this, I am nursing an aching body following a ride to Brighton, 60miles in 4 hours. I will start riding from Manchester at dawn and I aim to complete my 220miles before midnight (without collapsing)!
What do I hope to achieve?
