Story
On the 12th October I will once again be ‘sleeping out’ overnight, this time at the Kia Oval. Last year’s event was a huge success and many people were extremely generous in their support for me, raising vitally needed funds for the Cardinal Hume Centre and our work in tackling poverty and homelessness.
Last year over 1,800 people came over our threshold looking for help, advice and support as times became tougher for them and their families. Some were sleeping rough, some were living in hostels or on someone’s floor while others were facing the risk of being evicted or forcibly moved away from their homes and communities.
We want to bring home the key message that poverty and homelessness should not exist in our country today and of course we want to raise funds to support those people who find themselves on the edge through no fault of their own.
Of course sleeping out for this one night does not compare to the reality these people are facing day in and day out, but believe me it will be an act of genuine solidarity!
Please sponsor me and help send the message that homelessness and poverty are quite simply unacceptable in our country, the 9th (is it?) richest in the world.
Thank you very much.
Cathy
