Story
I am running the Great North Run for Cancer Research UK because much of my life has been affected by cancer and the work that CRUK do is paramount to pushing forward with cancer awareness and treatments, and ultimately saving lives.
My Mum and Dad were both diagnosed with cancer when I was 10 years old. My Auntie was diagnosed with cancer when I was 12 years old, and my Grandpa was diagnosed with bladder cancer too. When I was 15 years old, my Mum received her second breast cancer diagnosis and a few weeks later my Dad went in to hospital and sadly passed away, after a 4-5 year battle with Pseudomyxoma Peritonei. When I was in 6th form, my best friend's Mum was told that her cancer was terminal and she passed away when we were 18 years old. Finally, my Grandpa was diagnosed with lung cancer, and sadly died following a heart attack shortly before my 19th birthday.
I have spent the last 3 years volunteering for CRUK as a health awareness volunteer and will be running for the charity in memory of my Dad and Grandpa, and my friend's Mum, and to thank CRUK for all their work that has contributed to the successful treatment of my Mum and Auntie. I hope the money that I raise can help save more lives.
