Hello there Guys and Gals,
Well I'm now into week 15 of training and have just managed to complete an 18 mile run this evening in 2 hrs 59 mins - this being the furthest I have run throughout the course of my training.
Unfortunately, like a lot of first-time marathoners' experience during training, my best laid plans kind of went a little awry. For me this happened in around week 8 of training....
Those of you who have been fortunate enough to avoid my constant belly-aching and obsessing about this marathon, won't know that around this time I incurred a rather painful knee injury which prevented me from running at all and consequently set me back with the programme that I had been following. So, in typical Catherine-style I felt not quite as prepared as one would hope to be 2 weeks prior to running 26.2 miles. However, I am feeling a lot more positive about things after tonight's efforts.
The next couple of weeks will consist of winding down, which I am somewhat relieved about. As much as I have enjoyed those cold, dark Sunday runs (!!), I'm quite sure that my knees and toenails can't take too much more of the strain.
I am now just really looking forward to the Big Day and the knowing that I will have successfully (fingers crossed)contributed to raising funds for an incredibly worthwile charity.
Get Kids Going! is a National charity which gives disabled children and young people - up to the age of 26 years old - the wonderful opportunity of participating in sport.
They help promote sports for disabled children by providing them with specially built sports wheelchairs so they can participate in marathons, triathlons, tennis, athletics, mountain skiing, rugby, basketball and much more. Get Kids Going! also helps and encourages disabled British children to compete by supporting them with their sports, through training, physiotherapy, and travel, as well as the design and development of the sports wheelchairs.
I can honestly say that I personally thoroughly enjoyed and look back fondly upon my participation in the range of sporting activities, in particular athletics, that were available to me during my school years.
By donating you can give a disabled child or young adult the chance to experience the thrills and self satisfaction that come with taking part in sport, and who knows, with your help many could become record holders and Paralympic champions! If the only result is that a child/young adult gets to enjoy that incomparable feeling of achievement associated with participation in sport then surely my and your efforts have not been in vain.
Anyway, thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please, dig deep and donate now.
Oh, and wish me luck.....
