Story
I am both massively excited, and daunted, to be taking on this huge challenge and adventure - the summit of Kilimanjaro is 5895m above sea level - more than high enough to have issues with altitude sickness! The closest I have come to this is probably going up Snowdon when on holiday in Wales as a child!
The Snowdrop Project provides long term support to empower survivors of human trafficking to move on from their past. Snowdrop is close to my heart - in part because of the wonderful people (including my good friend, CEO Lara Bundock) who have worked so hard to respond to a real problem in support for these highly vulnerable people, to give hope and a chance for a safe, independent life. And because whatever troubles we go through, most of us will never have to know the horror of having our freedom removed by fear and coercion for the financial gain of others. These survivors deserve all the love and support we can offer. This is what snowdrop offers - long term support that help survivors not just survive but to thrive.
Snowdrop offers survivors of some of the most atrocious acts one person can do to another long term support that is critical to them being able to have a real life, away from fear and vulnerability. Reaching my fundraising target will make a massive difference to the support Snowdrop can provide.
Money donated to Snowdrop can pay for:
- professional case working and volunteer befriending
- professional counselling to help survivors deal with the psychological impact of their experiences;
- English lessons and work experience placements to allow survivors to engage with a community and a chance to live an independent life;
- renovate survivors permanent council housing to make it comfortable and safe - a stable home is critical on the path to independence;
- community activities for survivors and their children, to prevent isolation and loneliness.
