Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Carolyn's family have set up this page as a place to collect any kind donations that anyone wishes to make in tribute to our wonderful wife / mum / grandma.
Carolyn was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer in 2021. Throughout her treatment she received wonderful care from staff at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary and the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. Latterly the palliative care team at D&GRI stepped in to manage her care, and her final few days were spent in Ward B1 / the Alexandra Unit.
The staff were amazing and we all received great support from them throughout.
The Alexandra Unit has its own dedicated fund managed by the Dumfries & Galloway Health Board Endowment Fund organisation, and we would like any donations that people wish to make to be put towards this fund.
The main object of the fund is to ensure that individuals who are living with a terminal illness have the best care possible. Examples of how the fund has been used include:
- Provision of complementary therapy to help with pain management
- Provision of specialist equipment in the patient's home
- Comfortable area for relatives and visitors to the ward
- Decoration and artwork to make the environment more comfortable and aesthetically less clinical
- Development opportunities for staff
- Support for out of hours community rapid response palliative care service
Without the public support for this fund many additional activities undertaken by the Palliative Care team would not be possible.
