Update  9th May - We did it.  Three and a half hours.  We are all very proud of Jenny who was the youngest participant.

 

Eleanor, Jenny and I are taking part in the Star Shine Stroll (euphemism for a sponsored walk) for the Arthur Rank Hospice in Cambridge in memory of my Mother, Patricia, who died there March 2009, and also in memory of Mary, Eleanor's other Granny, who was also cared for at Arthur Rank.

It was a tremendous relief to me when the Arthur Rank Hospice was able to offer my Mother a bed and the care she received enabled me to make the most of my time with her during her last days.  Her pain was effectively controlled at last, and she benefited from a session of reflexology. 

The Hospice is partly funded by the NHS, but with the benefit of a Charity behind it, is able to offer much more to the community.  For instance, the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity helps to fund the Hospice at Home in this area.

Arthur Rank has not only supported Patricia and Mary, but also members of their family, practically and emotionally.  We shall always be very grateful to the staff there and hope to raise money for the Charity to extend its good work.  To this end you will find Eleanor, Jenny and myself trudging around Cambridge one probably cold evening in May alongside many other women.

I cannot remember when I last undertook this sort of enterprise, possibly it was one of the Rehab bridges of London walks when I was a teenager, so I hope you'll feel able to sponsor me now.  If you would like to donate to support this venture, please follow the instructions on the page.  I know that every penny raised will be well spent.  UK tax payers can increase their donation without costing themselves a penny more by choosing Gift Aid.
