Story
I never thought I’d run a marathon, but I also never thought I’d get breast cancer in my thirties! That’s unfortunately what happened, with my diagnosis coming 2 months after I got married, in the middle of a covid lockdown. After a mastectomy, 4 months of chemo, lymph node clearance surgery and 15 sessions of radiotherapy, my active treatment is done and I am cautiously looking forward to a cancer-free future.
I’ll be taking on the London Marathon 2022 in support of Prevent Breast Cancer.1 in 9 women and 1 in 1000 men in the UK will develop the disease in their lifetime. That means that every year, in the UK, 55,000 individuals are diagnosed, 150 people a day. Prevent Breast Cancer is the only UK charity entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer. Help me create a future free from breast cancer by donating today.
My treatment and the aftermath have been pretty tough, both physically and mentally. While I carried on exercising as much as I could, it’s definitely taken its toll on my fitness, and running a marathon would be tough enough at the best of times! Hopefully this challenge, and your donations, will encourage me on my journey back to fitness, while preventing others from having to go through the devastation of a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment in the future.
