I felt that I needed a personal challenge this year and want to continue to lose weight (3 stone so far!) and get fitter so when I heard about this I thought it would be perfect as it also benefits one of the best causes I know!

I am taking part in the Have a Heart trek along the Great Wall of China in October 2011 in aid of Children's Hospices UK, raising money to provide care and support to local seriously ill children and their families in their own homes.

As well as providing care & support for the seriously ill child, a visit from a hospice nurse can also relieve the pressure on the family, allowing them to spend more time with their other children. I will be trekking for 10 days, for between 5 and 7 hours a day, covering 120km and camping (me, camping?!!!) or staying with villagers overnight on my way along the wall.

The day which fills me with dread most is where we climb 'Heavens Ladder' approximately 2,000 steps (gulp) so if anyone sees me taking the lift instead of stairs over the next few months give me a 'kick' as a gentle reminder!!

My partner in crime will be Helen James, a lifelong friend who I am lucky enough to share this incredible experience with!

Scared? Yes! A little bit mad? Yes! Committed to raising all the funds I need and completing the trek? Hell YES!!!
