Four years ago, my dad was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer called Polycythemia Rubra Vera. He has been receiving treatment at the Lilac Centre in St Helens hospital since September 2014. In June last year and January of this year, he was rushed into Whiston hospital with life threatening conditions as a result of his cancer, through the hard work of all the medical staff I have been able to keep my dad with me for a little while longer. 

Time with my dad is something that cannot be equalled. For those who know me, you know how close me and my dad are, so to have him here with me is worth more than anything in the world. As Polycythemia Vera is something that can never be cured only controlled, I am competing in Tough Mudder to raise money as a thank you to Whiston & St Helens hospitals for all the hard work they do, not only for my dad, but for all cancer patients in the area. 

The staff at the cancer centres like the Lilac Centre not only provide world class healthcare, they also keep the spirits of cancer patients and their families high. For that, I am eternally grateful.
