PLEASE NOTE - I NEED £200 ON THIS PAGE BY 22nd APRIL 2016 IN ORDER TO TAKE PART IN THE EVENT
After taking part in this amazing event last year and raising nearly £600 for the 3 Cancer charities, I have decided to do the event again this year. It was a brilliantly well run event with plenty of support available as and when you needed it. It was by no means easy... the distance, start time of 9.30pm, negotiating the busy streets of Central London, careless drivers, drunk people running out in front of you, fatigue at 3am in the morning.... but having said all of that, none of it matters.
I have just been watching a programme about Eddie Izzard and the 27 marathons he is running in 27days for Sport Relief (what an inspiring chap!). He said this poem below (Invictus written by William Ernest Henley) has focused him and given him the motivation to achieve what he has set out to do (a poem that Nelson Mandela recited to other prisoners and was empowered by its message of self-mastery):
" Out of the night that covers me, black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever Gods may be, for my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance, I have not winced or cried aloud, under the bludgeonings of chance, my head is bloody but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears, looms but the horror of the shade, and yet the menace of the years finds, and shall find me, unafraid.
It matters not how straight the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul."
Since last year when I did the event, I know people who have lost loved ones to this dreadful disease. Let's help to eradicate cancer - donate today.
Thank you so much in advance for your support.
