Story
Heather was such a wonderful person who would do anything for anyone, she was kind, generous and loving, and will truly be sorely missed.
Heather was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2008, and was told she had about 2 months to live. She defied these odds, and after a number of intensive treatments was given the all-clear in 2010.
However the dreaded disease can back in 2012, and she had been battling with it ever since. Through the summer of 2013 she embarked upon a 'New Drug' trial at Oxford Hospital, because she wanted to give something back to the health service; a service that had helped her so much. She also wanted to help give hope to the people who receive the same diagnosis in the future.
It was at this point that her systems started getting more obvious, and more difficult for her to manage, and in November/December she spent time in the Prospect Hospice, where she was cared for by the most amazing team of health professionals. She was given the best care that we could possibly have hoped for, she was made comfortable and they kept her pain free. The team also provided support her and the family when she chose to return to her home.
Heather and Michael were recently married, and it was the Hospice that made this possible. They applied for a special licence so that the ceremony could be performed in their home, and also assisted in expediting the timeframes, so that the wedding could be done more quickly.
The Prospect Hospice have been instrumental in the care of both Heather and our Mum in their last few months and weeks on earth, and Myself, my Dad and Michael are so grateful for that, we really cannot thank them enough.
It was Heather's wish that we did not have gifts at the wedding, nor flowers at the funeral. She asked that Donations be made to the Prospect Hospice in lieu of both of these things. So please, if you would like to make a donation to the Hospice, so they can continue the work that they do in supporting other patients and families, please make a donation on this page, or at the Funeral.
With my heartfelt thanks,
Carol
