UPDATE 17th July 2022: Sooo… as many of you know I found out that I was pregnant in February, this means that I have had to adjust my initial trek in Cambodia. As many of you have shown so much support already I still wish to carry out a challenge to finish of my fundraiser for Young Minds.
On the 30th July 2022, I shall be climbing snowdon (This has all been medically cleared) I will be a little over 6 months pregnant. The track I’m taking will take 8 hours to complete, a little longer than some of the others but the safest option.
Please help me to finish this fundraiser on a high.
Lots of love Carly x
I am about to embark on a journey that’s going to test me both physically and mentally over the next year which shall conclude in me trekking through Cambodia over the course of 9 days from 19th-27th November 2022. A typical day will see me set of at 6am trekking a variety of terrains in temperatures of up to 32c for 6-8 hours per day!
Why am I doing this? The trek is to support Mental health, my chosen charity being that of Young Minds. Their vision is clear ‘To see a world where no young person feels alone with their mental health’. I have been that person and have suffered the debilitating effects that this has. I suffered mental health from a young age and did not receive my first diagnosis until the age of 22 my most recent being aged 34. Unfortunately this has led to some severe consequences and has had an impact on not only those dearest to me but also society I have experienced what a lonely place it is, for a long time I felt I was defined by the stigma attached to mental health for this reason I made a promise to myself that I would do anything possible to make a change even if it’s to one person’s life.
One of Young minds campaigns is to change the referral system and the time taken for young people to receive the vital support needed. This can be a matter of life or death for some. For me I truly believe things would have been a lot different if I had received the support needed from an earlier age.
I have also worked in a professional capacity alongside mental health services so have experienced the need for change first hand.
Over the next year I am committing to getting vulnerable (something that doesn’t come easy to me) in the hope to spark conversations and awareness to as many people as possible through various fundraising events as well as documenting my journey (the good, the bad and the ugly) through my social media pages.
I also hope to raise the vital funds needed to support Young minds and their vision and want to thank anyone that can donate to this amazing cause in advance.
Together we can end the stigma and save lives.
Much Love Carly x
