Hi, my name is Carl, im doing a 75 mile bike ride with my friend Gareth to raise money for sands.

This is a fantastic charity which gives so much support and aid to many parents who have lost a baby through stillbirth, neonatel death and sids.

My story.

On the 22nd of January 2010 I lost my son and almost lost my wife.  My wife went into hospital in the early hours at 35 weeks into her 3rd pregnancy thinking that she had gone into early labour, once there and a few checks and scans later they confirmed the terrible and devastating news that our little boy had died.

Unbeknown to everyone at that time my wife had had a complete placenta abruption probably they think from sudden onset of extreme pre-eclampsia and so was bleeding inside also, making her life at risk too. Luckily for us the brilliant staff at the hospital soon realized what was happening and raced to save her life, giving her blood transfusions and all sorts of different drugs to make her blood clot so she didn’t bleed to death.

My wife then had to deliver our son naturally and when he was born I prayed for him to cry, for it to be a mistake.. All we heard was silence... then my wife who was barely conscious calling out to hold her son.

I’m doing this charity bike ride in my sons honor, I hope the money will help towards research to help stop other parents having to go through something like this, or maybe it will help Sands to continue supporting other families in whatever way they need and to spread awareness of what is still a taboo subject, that no one wants to talk or think about.
