Story
I'm not usually one to do
this sort of thing, but I have cunningly combined two things I feel very
passionate about!..Music and helping to promote/raise money for charity.
I don't like to put my heart out there, but I feel I need to, in order to help
my cause and motivate myself..I run my own music blog which my mum encouraged
and supported and I haven't been very
active on my site lately, as I sadly lost my mother recently, (who by the way
had great taste in music - such as Metallica, HIM, Shinedown, Halestorm, Billy
Idol ect) who passed away from something called, Septicemia or Sepsis for
short, which is a whole-body inflammatory response to an infection. Common
signs and symptoms include fever, increased heart rate, increased breathing
rate, and confusion. It may not sound life threatening, but unfortunately if
not detected and left untreated it is, especially in my mum’s case. As it
wasn't diagnosed as this and not treated in time, highlighting that there is
not enough awareness for Sepsis, if she had been correctly diagnosed with this,
she may well still be here. My mum wasn't exactly healthy, she had Chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and myelofibrosis (a rare bone marrow
cancer), but both were managed well, my point being, if she was going to go,
you would think it would be as a result of this, not just an infection, (which
is essentially what Sepsis is) which could be easily prevented. Sepsis is one
of the biggest, yet least known causes of death. Every year, more than 100,000
people are admitted to hospital with sepsis and around 37,000 die — more than
the number of deaths from breast cancer and bowel cancer combined.
Please see this article from one of the lucky survivors of Sepsis from May this year: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-3077592/Why-aren-t-doctors-trained-spot-sepsis-killer-claims-37-000-lives-year.html
Anyway to the music part! As I run my own site in a bid to promote upcoming bands, as well as feature big bands and provide news, reviews and interviews. Starting from now I will be adding a donation button to my site that links to my JustGiving page to help raise awareness and money for The UK Sepsis Trust: http://sepsistrust.org/
My website is:
http://carinasmusicreviews.blogspot.co.uk/
So if you enjoy my content and want to help me out as a result, please donate (all proceeds will go to the charity), it can be as little as 1p, as it all adds up. Also September 2015 marks Sepsis Month, with World Sepsis day falling on the 13th September. So from now until September I will aim to do as many reviews, and requests as possible to promote the charity and the of course the music (rock/metal/alternative genres is my niche). I haven't set an fundraising goal, as I would be happy to raise anything to be honest. If you want to get involved, please get in touch with your request and I will try to get as much reviews and content out as I can, especially in September (a kind of review marathon). Any help and support is very much appreciated. Thank you for reading! People who have lost loved ones, know that it changes you, and this is something I feel I need to do.
Thank you so much,
Carina
