Story
Child poverty in Kenya today stands alone at a staggering estimated 46% of the national population. As a result, it is a daily challenge for families to afford the nutritious food, sanitation and clean water they need, resulting in malnourishment and poverty. Ultimately when communities face these crises, children sub consequently drop out of the educational systems. Almost 26% of all youth aged between 5 and 14 years are forced to forego education due to extreme poverty. This deprivation results in vulnerability to the many forms of exploitation and abuse of children. Our concept is simple. The more vulnerable children that are educated, the more opportunities they will have to strive to work out of poverty with the knowledge they acquire. To procure knowledge there must be facilities, amenities and equipments in place. Our aim is to build a sustainable environment with all of the aforementioned qualities.
We are the Cannon Street Brothers. A group of 7 childhood friends who all originate from the same part of London and have grown up together. Our love for humanity is genuine and we marry this with our undivided attempts to engage the community and the youth. We amongst other groups and individuals have made the intention to visit Kenya with Muslim Charity in February 2021. This will be their third tour where we will be first hand working with children with the sole aim to rehabilitate education facilities (Madrasa) in support of local vulnerable families in rural areas.
The current general state of these children and collectively the state of their families is devastating. We have witnessed firsthand through the eyes and ears of Muslim Charity, the heartbreaking conditions these children are forced to study in. Tin roofs held together by a structure of wooden planks only to rest on a floor of scorching hot mud which our children need to sit on throughout the process of studying. And if you ask these children if they were granted one gift what would they choose, you'll hear them say Books! Pens! Pencils! Paper!
To support our campaign we intend to fundraise via donations from friends and family and the general public.
